Instructions

  1. Check the RTE flour label

Use wheat flour explicitly labelled commercially ready to eat. Merely pre-toasted or home-browned raw flour is not an approved substitute; stop this version if labelled RTE flour is unavailable. Use the scaled ingredient list for 1–8 servings; step quantities describe the 2-serving base. Halve every allowance for one serving, multiply by four for eight, and keep the same thickness and per-batch checks. Cups are 240 ml, tablespoons 15 ml and teaspoons 5 ml.

  2. Stuff the dates

Pit dates and weigh the edible portion. Distribute the measured walnuts among the cavities, cutting to fit; reserve any remaining measured nuts for the top.

  3. Arrange one shallow layer

Pack stuffed dates in one layer in a shallow heat-safe serving dish. Do not assume the date count always equals the walnut-half count.

  4. Brown RTE flour for flavour

Gently brown the commercially RTE flour in a dry skillet, checking from 8 minutes and stirring continuously. This develops flavour; it is not a validated home decontamination step.
