Preparation: 5 min · Cooking: 5 min · Total: 27 min · 4 servings
Ingredients
- 4 tsp loose green tea
- 20 g fresh mint leaves
- 60 g granulated sugar (optional)
- 1000 ml drinking water
Instructions
Prepare the tea and mint
Measure 4 tsp loose green tea and 20 g fresh mint leaves. Rinse the mint in cool water, drain well, and remove any tough stems. Set out a heatproof teapot and four heatproof tea glasses.
Heat and slightly cool the water
Bring 1000 ml drinking water to a full boil in a kettle. Turn off the heat and let it stand for about 2 minutes, aiming for roughly 90°C before pouring over the green tea.
Steep the tea with mint
Put the green tea and drained mint leaves in the heatproof teapot. Pour in the hot water, cover, and steep for 5 minutes. Taste a cooled spoonful; the tea should smell minty without tasting harsh.
Fragrant with mint and pleasantly green-tea flavored, not harsh or bitter.
Steep the tea with mint: 300 seconds
Strain and sweeten if desired
Strain the tea into another heatproof vessel and discard the leaves. If using the optional 60 g sugar, stir in 30 g first, taste, then add up to the remaining 30 g as desired.
Pour and serve
Divide the tea among four heatproof glasses. Let it cool for about 10 minutes, or until safe to sip without burning your mouth.
Tips
- Drain the rinsed mint so extra water does not dilute the measured brew.
Common mistakes
- Leaving the leaves in the pot after steeping can make the tea bitter.
Substitutions
- Omit the optional sugar for unsweetened mint tea; keep the tea, mint, and water quantities unchanged.
Storage
Best served freshly brewed. If saving leftovers, cool promptly, cover, refrigerate at 4°C or below, and use within 24 hours.
Reheating
Warm refrigerated tea once until steaming, without boiling, and pour carefully into heatproof glasses.
