Instructions

  1. Measure this recipe and prepare safely

For the base 2 servings of Khasta Toast with Date Syrup, measure the ingredient list before starting. Cup = 240 ml, tbsp = 15 ml and tsp = 5 ml. Keep raw foods separate from ready-to-eat food and refrigerate perishables until needed.

  2. Prepare the bread

Set out 2 thick bread slices for the base two servings. Brioche is an explicit alternative; check the chosen bread label for allergens.

  3. Heat the measured ghee

Heat the total 2 tbsp ghee in a skillet over medium heat. Divide this allowance across batches; no extra butter or oil is included.

  4. Place slices without crowding

Place the bread flat in the hot ghee without crowding. Use manageable batches for eight servings rather than stacking slices.

  5. Check the first side

Check from about 3 minutes until the underside is crisp and golden. Reduce heat before darkening or scorching.

Check the first side: 180 seconds

  6. Turn the toast safely

Turn each slice carefully with a flat spatula, keeping hands clear of the hot fat.

  7. Check the second side

Check the second side from about 2 minutes; 2–3 minutes is an estimate. Remove the slices when crisp and golden, not burnt.

Check the second side: 120 seconds

  8. Divide the date syrup

Drizzle the total 3 tbsp date syrup across both hot slices just before serving. No tahini or sesame garnish is part of this master.

  9. Add optional Geymar

If using cream, divide 1 tbsp total between both slices. Geymar is thick clotted cream, not clarified butter. Serve immediately.

  10. Portion and store safely

Refrigerate promptly in shallow portions, aiming within 1 hour, at 4°C or colder. Use within 24 hours. Do not leave a deep pot to cool on the counter. This selected household limit is not a validated shelf life.
